It’s an identity crisis.

When you take off the uniform, whether you were an NCO, a Petty Officer, or a Commissioned Officer, you lose the “automatic” authority that comes with your rank. You can no longer rely on the UCMJ or a rigid chain of command to get compliance. If you try to lead a corporate marketing team the same way you led a squad in the field, you won’t get results—you’ll get a meeting with HR.
